While helping my son change into his bed clothes he asks: why am I brown? Then he lists his classmates who are “Brown” as well.

So I fumbled this one. I was caught off guard, I didn’t have a straight answer. I kinda mumbled “because that’s who we are”, it’s like I mentally and automatically went into a deep dive into racism in America history. I’m talking to a three year old. I want to insert pride AND open mindedness. I want to install acceptance of self AND a sense of humbleness.

If this follows suit like all new ideas, thoughts and experiences. This will come up again and I will not punt this one!

We are brown because that’s the color God made the chosen people…or something powerful and profound like that…yeah.
